Abstract
The Department of Defence has commissioned an Environmental Base Line Study of the Shoal Bay Communications site between Micket Creek and Kings Creek near Darwin. The total area of the site is 5780 hectares, of which most is a buffer against radio frequency interference. The Department of Defence plans to upgrade the existing facility and at this stage this will not involve any further development outside the currently developed area. The purpose of the baseline study is to develop an environmental management plan (ELMP) for the area. The terms of reference of the baseline study include "the provision of data on insect life, including transient biting insects and the level of breeding". A final report of the baseline study is due by mid 1995.
