This Discussion paper has been prepared as part of a review of the Tobacco Act in response to growing public demand for smokefree areas and measures to help prevent children from beginning to smoke. Most of the proposals here are already in place in other States. The proposed changes to the Tobacco Act outlined in this discussion paper have been drawn from the experience of other jurisdictions, from the evidence base on smoking and its related harms, and from growing public demand.
