Abstract
In March 1990 the Commonwealth Government made a commitment to introduce a National Program for Early
Detection of Breast Cancer (NPEDBC) for women aged 40 years and above. $64 million was committed over three years for the program. The Commonwealth has indicated that it will fund the first year, or phase, of
implementing the program in States. The second and third years would be cost shared between the Commonwealth and State/Territories according to a formula to be determined by a Funding Working Party of the National Advisory Committee for Early Detection of Breast Cancer. There is no commitment for funding beyond year three.
