Abstract
The Uniqueness of the Central Australian geography and its people poses some interesting challenges to health providers within the central desert region. Along with this uniqueness, is the added challenge of a rapidly changing environment within the health care industry itself. With Central Australian infant mortality and morbidity rates 6 times higher than the national average, and a health system demanding higher quality
service at lower costs, it becomes imperative to investigate and action new models of care which address both the health needs of the population in a more holistic manner and overcome the inherent problems within today's health system.
