Northern Territory Very Very Very Remote Therapists' Workshop
Abstract
This workshop has evolved over the past three years. It originated in 1992, when NT physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a speech pathologist working either full or part time in remote Aboriginal communities, met in Darwin to talk about about common challenges and to address important issues in this work area. These issues included cross cultural factors, service delivery models, equipment, clinical matters
etc.
In 1993, a larger group of Allied Health Professionals (AHP's) held a workshop in Alice Springs. Also in attendance were Aboriginal people with disabilities.
The workshops are based on a II grass roots II approach, attempting to consult with Aboriginal people in the process.
This year the workshop is being held in Katherine, a rural region which has no therapists allocated full time to
providing a service to remote Aboriginal communities.
