Abstract
The Northern Territory is currently free of dengue because the mosquito vector is absent, but it remains both vulnerable and receptive to the introduction of the vector. The vector of the dengue virus in Australia is Aedes aegypti. Dengue fever and Ae. aegypti were present in Darwin during World War II but the disease has not been endemic in the Northern Territory from at least 1955 .
