The town of Jabiru can experience seasonally high pest levels of various species of mosquitoes. The most numerous and significant species are the common banded mosquito (Culex annulirostris) and the salt marsh mosquito (Aedes viqilax).
Previous recommendations for mosquito control i n the Jabiru area included an ultra low volume fogging operation adjacent to the drainage lines around the town. The frequency of the fogging operations and the levels of mosquito numbers indicating the fogging requirements, were based on the mosquito monitoring data from 1977-1981. During the last few years there has been an increased monitoring effort and it has been evident that the fogging frequencies and indicative mosquito numbers have needed revision. The mosquito
monitoring data from 1984-1989 has now been examined and revised fogging frequencies and indicative mosquito numbers drawn up.
