The Northern Territory Women's Health Policy provides a framework for the development and implementation of health services for women.
As well as providing direction for the development of specialised women's health services, this policy will be instrumental in the re-orientation of mainstream services to meet the specific needs of women.
Through this policy the Northern Territory Government acknowledges that women have physical, emotional and social needs that are related to their roles in society. Women are the major consumers of health services and the major providers of health care in the home and community. The policy recognises that women want services which promote health as well as services that respond effectively and sensitively to illness and disability.
