Abstract
Essentially , leprosy is a communicable, specific, peripheral neuritis caused by Mycobacterium leprae. M Leprae is an obligate intracellular parasite with special affinity to the Schwann cells of the peripheral nerves and the macrophages. Man is the only known host, i.e. leprosy is a purely "human " disease.
