Abstract
Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) remain one of the most important causes of morbidity in the Northern Territory (NT). The short and long term effects of STDs are often neglected by both patient and health care provider alike.
This document aims to provide an overview of the epidemiology of STDs in the NT and to offer strategies for control of particular conditions at an individual and at a public health level.
There have been a number of important changes in the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of STDs
in the NT in 1995. Each is dealt with in more detail in the text proper but the highlights are listed below. There is no page (iv) in the original document.
