Abstract
The NT Department of Health and Community Services (DHCS) Breastfeeding Policy and Strategic Plan 1994-2000 was developed by a group of operational health care workers and specialist personnel from hospitals and community care centres (CCC) within DHCS, Community Controlled Aboriginal Health Services in NT towns, Nursing Mothers Association of Australia (NMAA) (now Australian Breastfeeding Association - ABA),
Childbirth Education Association (CEA), Australian College of Midwives Inc. (ACMI), and the Dieticians Association of Australia (NT Branch).
The baseline data provided in the policy document were specifically collected in a research project conducted as part of the policy development process. The majority of targets were quantified, although some were descriptive, where baseline data was qualitative or unavailable.
