Site Specific Assessment (SSA) is a component of institutional research governance and separate to the ethical review of research proposals by a recognised Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). The SSA process involves assessing the suitability of the research proposal for the Health Service site and ensures that adequate resources exist for satisfactory conduct and completion of the project. The NT Research Governance Office(s) assess whether appropriate consultation and approval has been granted by local decision makers to permit the research to be undertaken at the site.

TEHS Outpatient Fibroscan is completed in the Outpatient Department at Royal Darwin Hospital, Palmerston Regional Hospital and also available to sites visited by the Viral Hepatitis outreach service. The referral is for FIBROSCAN ONLY, which is received, triaged and booked within either the Viral Hepatitis or Hepatology service. Fibroscan is carried out by the Clinical Nurse Consultants assigned to each service. Fibroscan reports are loaded onto Clinical Work Station and electronically sent to the requesting medical officer or nurse practitioner. If ongoing management of a patient is required, a separate referral to the appropriate service is necessary. This form has been made available online to non-NTG referrers.
