Abstract
Gapuwiyak is an Arnhem Land Aboriginal Community of approximately 200 to 400 persons (Wet/Dry seasonal average) situated approximately 30kms inland of Buckingham Bay and about 530kms East of Darwin. The community lies on the northern margin of Lake Evella, a basin lake about 1km in diameter.
The community is surrounded by medium density forest and the nearest tidally influenced areas are approximately 12kms distant.
At the time of the visit 9 outstations were in operation and Mr Phillip Schoenberg was the Manager of the Outstation Resource Centre. The Community President was Mr Kenny Gunbuku. Two officers from the Medical Entomology Branch, Mr Geoff Davis (Medical Entomologist) and Mr Stuart Smith (Technical Officer), visited the community during the period 8-10 May 1985 to conduct a vector mosquito survey ( including Aedes aegypti, the dengue fever mosquito) because the settlement had not previously been surveyed.
