Addressing gaps in services for people with disabilities was identified as a key goal in Territory Health's Five Year Strategic Plan for Disability Services. A performance indicator for this goal was the proportion of identified need which is met or unmet.
The aim of this project was to conduct a survey of Territory Health Services and other service providers to determine the number of people with disabilities who live in the Northern Territory who had critical unmet needs for support and services. This project documented the services currently being provided to individuals and identified the services critical to improving the quality of life of the individuals which were not being received.
The target group of people were those with profound or severe handicaps who required continual or frequent assistance in activities of daily living.
