Wadham Lagoon had previously been designated as the least productive of 11 mosquito breeding sites sampled over a 12 month period in 1984/85 in the Darwin rural area in the report "Biting Insects in the Rural Area Strategy". The reason for this ranking was due to its more ephemeral nature and relative freedom from aquatic reeds. At that time the 2 most abundant species were Coquillettidia xanthogaster and Culex annulirostris.
Following a mosquito complaint from adjacent to this lagoon after heavy rains in February 1993 the current investigation was conducted to quantify adult mosquito numbers, identify mosquito breeding sites and
provide a recommendation for control.
