Abstract
For some 2 years there has been a viable Reconstructive Surgery Program working under the banner of the AUSTRALIA / INDONESIA - SISTER HOSPITAL scheme centred on Soe and Kefamenanu Hospitals in Timor, Indonesia.
The program is designed to cater for patients with deformity or disability arising from trauma, burns poliomyelitis, leprosy, congenital defects and other problems.
Resconstructive surgery is the lynchpin of the program since its results can been seen by all, are immediate and have the potential to open the door to Public Health initiatives.
