| Abstract |
In February 2021, a fatal JE case was notified from Bathurst Island, Northern Territory (NT), with the diagnosis confirmed in June 2021. The initial case was followed by a national JE outbreak in early 2022. This report outlines the Medical Entomology (ME), NT Health component of the JEV surveillance response to determine the presence/absence of JEV in the NT. The response was part of a multi departmental and stakeholder collaboration, a One Health response, including the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT), the NT Chief Veterinary Officer, the Berrimah Farm Veterinary Laboratory (BVL), the North Australian Quarantine Strategy (NAQS), Royal Darwin Hospital Infectious Disease team, Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), NT Pathology, NT Health Immunisation and Environmental Health, Monash University, Victoria Health, Menzies School of Health Research, Brisbane University, Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) and the Tiwi Resources Rangers.
