Abstract
Barramundi Farms N.T. at Middle Arm is a fledgling enterprise which aims to culture and supply barramundi to the restaurant industry in Darwin and elsewhere within the year. To do this a series of large pools have been constructed to hold different age classes of fish. One important constituent of the fish diet in the culturing process is mosquito larvae.
Following a request for advice from the Medical Entomology Branch, a survey of the facility was conducted on 18 May 1993. The aim of this visit was to recommend ways of improving and maintaining the volume of mosquito larvae being produced to meet the demands of culturing large numbers of barramundi, to ensure that they were not creating a pest public health in the process and to investigate the possible incidence of copepod
predation of mosquito larvae.
