Abstract
The Darwin South planning and development strategy covers an area from Stuart Park to Palmerston and includes the major tidal creeks and the hinterland south of the Stuart Highway. Stage 1 of the strategy is the
construction of a sea wall across Sadgroves Creek to create an impoundment that will eventually provide over 650 hectares of surrounding land for development.
Biting insects have been recognised as a potential constraint for development in the area. The Medical Entomology Branch of the Department of Health and Community Services have been requested to evaluate the potential problems.
This report details the results of the investigations to determine the species, magnitude and distribution of biting insects in the Sadgroves Creek basin.
