Abstract |
This mosquito survey of Pine Creek was initiated by a public enquiry from a Pine Creek resident who was being bitten by day biting mosquitoes in late December 2016. Images of one of the mosquitoes sent to Medical Entomology of the Northern Territory Department of Health showed a mosquito possibly belonging to the Aedes Stegomyia group. This group includes the endemic species Ae. katherinensis but also the exotic dengue mosquito Ae. aegypti and the Asian tiger mosquito Ae. albopictus. However, the images did not show enough detail to identify the species. To ensure that no exotic mosquitoes had established in Pine Creek, a mosquito survey of the town was carried out on 5 and 6 January 2017.
