Abstract
Diabetes occurs when the pancreas A GLAND NEAR THE LIVER does not make enough or any insulin (A HORMONE) Diabetes is a shortage or complete absence of insulin.
When non-diabetic people eat a meal which includes sugars and starches, (Carbohydrates) these are digested and absorbed into the blood as sugar . The blood sugar rises and so the pancreas produces insulin.
The insulin moves the sugar out of the blood into the muscle where it is used for energy, or into the liver, where it is stored for later use. As a result, blood sugar returns to normal.
