The rural subdivision of Ilparpa proceeded in 1987 despite concerns about mosquitoes expressed by the Alice Springs Council and the Department of Health and Community Services. Following mosquito complaints from residents in the subdivision in July 1993, adult mosquito traps were set on a weekly basis by Alice Springs Council Health Surveyors, initially at Swanson St and Lillecrapp Rd. Regular trap collections from the Alice Springs area are routinely sent to the Medical Entomology Branch of the DH&CS in Darwin for identification and comment.
