Abstract
"Crab Claw Island" is a coastal freehold area in Bynoe Harbour which was formerly part of Finnis River Station. A tourist resort and airstrip was constructed on the island in 1987. A proposal has been submitted to the Department of Lands and Housing to subdivide the bulk of the island into a maximum of 100 freehold blocks of 850 sq. m. minimum size, to be marketed for weekender use. Comments on potential mosquito and biting midge problems on the island have previously been submitted to the Department of Lands and Housing. A preliminary environmental report for the subdivision has now been submitted to the Department of Health and Community Services for comment. This report presents the results of a brief biting insect survey to assess the current and potential mosquito problems in order to evaluate the preliminary environmental report.
