Abstract
The Department of Health and Community Services has conducted a number of mosquito surveys in the Alice Springs area over recent years. This Department , in co-operation with the Alice Springs Town Council, has also conducted extensive mosquito monitoring and control operations around Il Parpa Swamp for a number of years. This swamp and the associated sewage ponds produces large numbers of mosquitoes, which represent both a nuisance and health risk to the community. The continuing problem of mosquito control in this area, and the requirements of the consultants working on the problems associated with the sewage treatment area and the disposal of effluent have necessitated this report. The information from our surveys and regular monitoring operations are summarised in this report and its significance to the sewage treatment and effluent disposal problem are discussed.
