Abstract: In this brief overview, I emphasize the importance of the specimen-reception department in the running and flow of a laboratory. Also, I outline the problems and the challenges it faces, which are almost universally applicable to all laboratories. To my knowledge, this topic has not been directly reported before in the literature.
