This factsheet examines the prevalence of multimorbidity among Northern Territory (NT) adults using 2021 Census data, exploring patterns and relationships with socio-demographic characteristics. Multimorbidity was more prevalent among older adults, females, people with lower educational attainment, those not in the labour force, and lower-income groups, with important differences also observed by Aboriginal status and across age, sex, and income intersections. The findings highlight socio-demographic inequalities in the burden of multiple long-term health conditions in the NT. However, Census-based estimates are likely to underestimate the true prevalence of multimorbidity because of limitations in the selected conditions captured and potential under-reporting, underscoring the need for cautious interpretation and more detailed individual-level data to support health policy and integrated service planning.
