Abstract
Injury is a significant public health issue in the Northern Territory (NT). Public health surveillance of injury helps to inform policy responses and strategic decision-making, and enables, and supports the implementation and monitoring of injury prevention programs, by providing detailed data on who, when, where, and how people are injured. This report exams descriptive and trend analysis using multiple data sources including death, hospital admission, Emergency Department presentation and remote primary health care consultation. This report provides epidemiological overview of injury cases and deaths over an 18-year period. The report has also reviewed core administrative health data collections to support injury surveillance in the NT and provided recommendations on how to improve health data for improved injury surveillance.
