NT Antimicrobial Stewardship
NT Antimicrobial Stewardship
NT Antimicrobial Stewardship Overview:
Antimicrobial stewardship promotes optimal
antimicrobial prescribing. The aim of the TEHS and CAHS antimicrobial
stewardship programs are to improve the safe and appropriate use of
antimicrobials, reduce patient harm and decrease the incidence of
antimicrobial resistance in Australian hospitals
There are both a Top End Health Service and
Central Australia Health Service committee responsible for improving and
maintaining antimicrobial stewardship across NT Health. To contact
secretaries for these committees see the contact details below
NT Health are committed to supporting the
National Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy and work to prevent the
development of antimicrobial resistance specifically by supporting the
following objectives in the National Strategy:
- Increasing awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance through communication, education and training
- Maintaining coordinated surveillance of
antimicrobial usage and resistance through NAUSP reports, NAPS audits
and Health Service audit schedules
- Implementing effective antimicrobial
stewardship via implementation of restriction and approval systems to
control antibiotic use
- Promoting research on strategies to improve antimicrobial stewardship including optimal antimicrobial dosing and prescribing
TEAMS/CHAMPS Approval Systems
Disclaimer:
The following is not up-to-date in TEAMS:
TEAMS/CHAMPS are online approval systems for antibiotics specific to the NT health service.
Approval codes are only valid for the indication and reasons provided
when accessing the application, and may only be used once for an
indication per admission.
Any code which does not match the criteria
outlined by TEAMS/CHAMPS will be cancelled and the treating team
contacted, as this will not be supplied by pharmacy.
Codes must be sourced from the relevant (CAHS or TEHS) application version to be effective.
These applications are produced and maintained
by NT Government AMS committees, and updates can be performed on
request. If you would like to update any element of an application
