Abstract: Meningococcal disease is caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitides. Meningococcal disease most often presents as meningitis, blood poisoning and pneumonia. (See fact sheet available at https://www.nt.gov.au and search for meningococcal. There are different strains of disease the most common types are A, B, C, W135 and Y.
