| Abstract: | Due to an increase in the rate of heterosexually acquired HIV in young women in the NT over the past five to 10 years, the DHCS decided in early 2001 to develop a
strategic approach to early intervention to prevent further cases of heterosexually
acquired HIV in women. The approach was to undertake a six-month pilot awareness
campaign targeting young heterosexual women aged 18-30 years who reside in urban
Darwin, frequent nightclubs, pubs or bars and who may engage in casual sexual
relationships. The Young Women’s Sexual Health pilot project with the slogan, “Put In On So We Can Get It On”, was conducted by the Women’s Health Strategy Unit (WHSU) in partnership with the AIDS/STD Program of the Centre for Disease Control from November 2002 to July 2003. This evaluation report informs key stakeholders of the appropriateness, efficiency and effectiveness of the project’s components and makes recommendations to inform future
policy and strategy development. |
